You can find out when your collection day is by searching for your address on My South Tyneside

You can also call us on 0191 427 7000 or email us at recycle@southtyneside.gov.uk to find out when your collection day is, or to order a new calendar or replacement bin.

 

Household waste

 Your grey wheeled bin is collected once a week.

Please remember to:

  • Put your bin out before 8am.
  • Place your bin where the edge of your property meets the footpath/road.
  • Don't leave out large items or extra bags as they will not be collected.
  • Take your bin back in once it has been emptied.

Recyclable waste

Your black Kerb-it box will usually be collected on the same day as your wheeled bin, but it will only be collected once a fortnight.

What can I put in my recycling bin?

  •  Glass bottles and jars
  • Paper, including newspapers, envelopes and greetings cards (except those with glitter, plastic or batteries)
  • Metal food and drink cans, aerosol cans

Please remember to put your box out by 8am on the day of collection.

Garden waste

What can I put in my green bin?

  •  Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Leaves
  • Turf*
  • Twigs / woody waste
  • Cut flowers
  • House plants
  • Weeds

(*If you are putting turf into your green bin, remove any excess soil to avoid the bin becoming too heavy to empty)

What not to put in your bin

  • Kitchen / food waste
  • Stones
  • Flowerpots and seed trays
  • Plastic bags
